For some it was luck, for me it was fate that put me in the river on January 15th, 2009. My life is like a drumbeat getting louder and louder. I don’t know where I will end up or even if I will be alive once I get there but I am going full steam ahead. Every step in my life has led me to the next, guided by unseen hands. That section of the Hudson carries so much for me. I have saved lives, been saved myself and have been blessed with being a part of the greatest Museum in the world “Intrepid”. I decided to name my boat after LT Michael P. Murphy, A Navy Seal from Patchogue Long Island who was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor. As soon as I read about Mike heroics the decision was made. Thru Intrepid I was able to get permission from his father for that honor. A few months later an aircraft drops out of the sky and lands in the river near me.
Mikes Father Dan writes…
As the father of Navy SEAL Lt. Michael P. Murphy, a true American hero who was the recipient of the Medal of Honor, this nation’s highest combat award for courage and bravery…it does not surprise me, not only that the MV Lt. Michael P. Murphy would soon after its christening be involved in assisting and aiding people in need and danger but that the person who carries Michael’s name on his ship would exhibit those same qualities that made Navy SEAL Lt. Michael P. Murphy such a special person. God Bless and thanks for sharing that Michael’s legacy and those that share his dream are still in the forefront of helping humanity and trying to save lives and make this world a better place. God Bless America.

Scott, how fortuitous for all of us that you chose the Michael Murphy name for your boat and that you do embody the same spirit that made him a hero. I know that Michael’s father does realize the legacy his son left, and that the legacy will go on in all those like you who just try to be there whenever you are needed. Some of us were the lucky ones to be rescued by you that day on the Hudson…Michael would be proud that his name was involved in that selfless act. Blessings on you and on Michael’s family. His legacy and your legacy will be the same…the acts of everyday courage that make the real heroes! Beth 20C
